Edible Landscapes Menu

Perennial Fruit Kits

We took the guesswork out of beginning your perennial planting project. Each kit contains native productive varietals for generating nutritional abundance for your household as well as a care guide that includes ideas on what to do with your harvests. Each kit covers approximately 100SF. If you have more space, feel free to mix and match kits for added diversity. Includes a virtual siting consult with our team.

Serviceberry - Raspberry

Site these companions in full-sun to partial shade. You'll receive: 1 Serviceberry tree, 3 everbearing raspberry, and an herbaceous layer containing fern, wild ginger and yarrow. Edible mushroom logs compliment this kit well.

Apple - Currant

Ideal for a sunny space and for providing the largest array of fruit throughout the growing season. You'll receive: 2 Apple trees, 2 currant bushes, and an herbaceous layer containing nodding wild onion, anise hyssop, and wild strawberry.

Cherry - Honeyberry

Site this arrangement in a sunny spot for most fruit production. You'll receive: 1 Cherry tree, 3 honeyberry bushes, and an herbaceous layer of prairie onion, mountain mint, and wild strawberry.

Garden Kits

We can help you install a gardening system that works for you, from preparing planting beds directly in the ground, or set-up a raised bed. If you have more space, feel free to mix and match kits for added diversity. Includes a virtual siting consult with our team. Each kit is fully customizable.

9ft x 9ft Kitchen Garden Kit (63SF)

With successional plantings throughout the growing season, one could grow 240-400lbs of fresh produce!

6ft Keyhole Garden (25SF)

This is a sturdy self-contained raised garden bed system that has approximately 25SF of planting space and a composting hole hidden in the center of the garden bed - convenient for having a place for discarding weeds AND capturing extra nutrients for feeding your plants. These systems are often used with growing greens, herbs, or focusing on a specialty crop. With successional plantings throughout the growing season, one could grow 28-45lbs of fresh food!

Live Edge Raised Beds (32SF)

Using milled lumber sourced from our Edge restoration projects, our custom raised beds have an attractive organic look, and are great for increasing planting space, especially in areas where you are unsure about what's in your soil. Most common size is 4' wide x 8'long x1' deep, giving you 32SF of planting space.

Hedgerow Plants

These plants provide the greatest benefits when planted in groups for pollination, privacy screening, harvesting and habitat benefits.

Hazelnuts

A swiss armyknife of shrubs. Native, habitat support for songbirds, butterflies, moths, tree frogs, and wild turkeys. Delicious nuts, biomass, basketting material, erosion control and more. These do well when transplanted 3-4' spacing for obtaining the hedgerow effect. Be forewarned  - in urban settings, it's common for the squirrels to harvest the nuts before people.

Elderberry

A native planting's reliable best friend. The quick-growing shrub provides critical shrubland edge habitat support for migrating birds to nest-in and refuel while on their migratory route. The fruits and edible and medicinal as well as the flowers! They can tolerate partial shade, but will provide the most yield potential when sited in full-sun.. Space plants 3-4' apart for obtaining the hedgerow effect. These grow well in companionship to hazelnuts.

Highbush Cranberry

This is actually a kind of Viburnum, not a true cranberry. These shrubs showcase dense foliage with beautiful white flower clusters that yield drupes of edible tart flavorful berries. When left on the shrub, the berries add winter interest and provide nutritious forage for birds. Another outstanding plant that supports songbirds and other wildlife throughout the year. When spaced close together, they create another excellent hedgerow.

Willow

Thrive in full sun and moist soils. Native. Fast-growing. Super versatile. When actively pruned and harvested, these willows grow more like a dense shrub with greenish to orange stems. If left alone, it will continue to mature into a medium-large tree. Useful in establishing living fences, basketting material, erosion control, mushroom inoculation logs and more.  Transplant 1'-3' spacing for a hedgerow effect, or as far apart as you need.

Mushroom Logs

Why not garden with mushrooms too? These are as close as you get to having a crop that is a set-it-and-forget it 'til harvest. Place these in the shady part of your yard. Add these nutritional powerhouses to your garden space. Logs are sustainably collected, cut into 36" lengths and then Inoculated with cold-hardy strains of edible mushrooms.
